Unlocking Potential: Mindcarter's Journey in Organisational Psychology
Welcome, Amar, to the Founders Story. Let us delve into the inspiring journey of Mindcarter. What initially sparked your passion in this field, leading you to establish the company in 2005?
Amar Rajan: Thank you for having me. The journey of MindCarter began in 2005, fueled by my passion for organisational psychology and behaviour. There were not many companies offering specialised services in this domain back then, which is what made me focus on this niche.
In the initial days, Mindcarter started as a proprietorship, and my home office became the first stepping stone. It was an auspicious start—I secured the SBI Officer’s management development programme as our very first client. This marked the beginning of a fulfilling venture that has grown significantly over the years.
Initially, we focused on creating and delivering niche training programmes like “Management of Workplace Politics” and “Gamified Parenting.” These programmes helped us carve a unique space for ourselves in the industry. As Mindcarter grew, we transitioned into a private limited company in 2015 to formalise our commitment to excellence.
Our core focus has always been on organisational psychology and behaviour, allowing us to provide unparalleled expertise and support to our clients. Over time, we have expanded our services to include psychometric assessments, leadership coaching, and leadership selection programs. A key achievement in our journey has been our collaboration with international consulting firms like OD-TOOLS Germany, which has significantly enhanced our capabilities and reputation. Today, Mindcarter caters to a diverse range of clients, from startups with a handful of employees to MNCs with over 10,000 employees and even government organisations across India.
We are constantly innovating and are excited to launch new wellness programmes and a SaaS product targeting the elderly population worldwide this year. These initiatives reflect our dedication to meeting the evolving needs of our clients.
Looking back, I am incredibly proud of Mindcarter’s journey and the impact we have made. Building a successful entrepreneurial journey through Mindcarter has been a deeply fulfilling experience. Our unwavering pursuit of excellence and commitment to our core values have not only shaped us into a trusted partner for organisations navigating the complexities of organisational behaviour and leadership but have also inspired us to specialise in this field.
In the early days, Mindcarter focused on training programmes like “Management of Workplace Politics.” How did this specialisation set you apart from the competition?
Amar Rajan: Absolutely. Initially, we focused on developing niche training programmes that addressed specific needs within organisations. These unique offerings, along with more recent ones like “Gamified Parenting,” established Mindcarter as a distinct player in the industry. Additionally, our collaboration with international firms like OD-TOOLS Germany has helped position Mindcarter at the forefront. These unique programmes and collaborations with top-class industry leaders distinguish us from the rest.
Transitioning Mindcarter into a private limited company in 2015 speaks volumes about your growth. What has been the core focus that has driven this success?
Amar Rajan: Innovation and our willingness to learn and adapt to latest trends in the industry have been key drivers of our success. Our unwavering focus on organisational psychology and behaviour has always been Mindcarter’s cornerstone. We prioritise impactful programmes over pep talks, ensuring that participants not only learn new skills but also apply them effectively in the workplace. While our growth has been gradual, it has been exceptionally steady and sustainable.
Amar, walk us through your current program offerings. What can potential clients expect to find?
Amar Rajan: Absolutely! We have a comprehensive suite of programs to cater to various client needs. One key area is psychometric assessments. We have partnered with OD-TOOLS, a renowned German firm, to provide clients with reliable and insightful assessments.
Imagine this: you can get a clear picture of your employees’ interests, personalities, and how they function within a team. We offer assessments that range from employee interest mapping to 360-degree feedback, giving you a well-rounded view of your workforce.
One program I am particularly excited about is the Personality-Based Coaching Program. This unique approach recognises that everyone is different. We tailor coaching strategies based on individual traits, behaviours, and goals. This can lead to significant improvements in areas like self-awareness, communication, leadership, and work-life balance for your employees.
Another program in high demand is Behavioural Interview for Managers. Here, we equip managers with the skills to overcome biases, craft effective interview questions, and ultimately select the best candidate for the job.
Over the years, we have grown to support a diverse range of clients. From fledgling startups to established MNCs, we tailor our services to fit any organisation’s size and needs.
Can you share an example of a particularly challenging project that Mindcarter undertook?
Amar Rajan: One such project involved managing four mentoring and coaching centres across Kerala. As our first multi-centre project, it presented significant challenges in team setup, recruitment, and coordination. Being a one-person company, building a team from scratch to ensure seamless operations across all locations was a major feat.
We leveraged technology to streamline operations and maintain effective communication across all centers. Project management tools, communication platforms, and collaborative software allowed for real-time updates, efficient scheduling, and centralised control of activities. This technological backbone was essential for ensuring cohesive operations.
Finding the right talent was another hurdle. Persistence paid off, and we were able to source a group of dedicated individuals passionate about mentoring and coaching. This involved rigorous screening and interviews to ensure alignment with Mindcarter’s vision and values.
A significant lesson learned was the value of flexibility in workforce management. We established a pool of expert gig workers who could be mobilised based on project requirements. This approach provided the flexibility to scale the team up or down as needed, ensuring we could meet the demands of each centre effectively. This experience led to the creation of a panel of experts for future projects, allowing us to assemble high-performing teams tailored to specific client needs.
Despite the initial challenges, the project was a resounding success. The centres thrived under our management, and client satisfaction scores soared. This experience solidified our expertise in multi-location operations and our ability to scale our services effectively.
Looking ahead, you have mentioned exciting new initiatives like wellness programmes and a SaaS product targeting the elderly. Can you elaborate on these future endeavours?
Amar Rajan: We are thrilled to be venturing into new territories. As for wellness programmes, we recognise the growing importance of mental health support. We are currently in discussions with a leading tech company to provide mental health assistance through chatbots. This innovative approach will offer 24/7 support, making it more accessible and immediate for those seeking help. Additionally, we are developing a mobile app specifically designed to enhance cognitive engagement in the elderly population. This app will have a variety of activities aimed at improving their overall well-being.
So, technology seems to be a major driver for Mindcarter’s future. How do you plan to integrate innovative tech solutions into your existing strategies?
Amar Rajan: Absolutely! At Mindcarter, we prioritise innovation and embrace technology-driven solutions. In fact, innovation and technology are core values at Mindcarter. We aim to leverage technology to enhance our consulting services, making them more efficient, personalised, and accessible to people across the world.
What about customer experience? How do you ensure exceptional service while maintaining brand consistency amidst technological advancements?
Amar Rajan: The customer experience is paramount at Mindcarter. We meticulously evaluate internal processes and continuously integrate modern technologies to enhance CX while maintaining brand consistency. Every programme undergoes a thorough quality audit through in-depth client feedback. This mechanism allows us to understand their experiences and make informed adjustments to ensure we consistently exceed expectations. Additionally, we stay updated on industry trends and connect with leaders to refine our services and integrate innovative approaches.
With this focus on tech and client-centricity, how do you envision Mindcarter expanding its market reach in the coming years?
Amar Rajan: Our market reach is poised for significant growth as we embrace technology. Tech-driven services like the mental health chatbot and the app for the elderly will allow us to reach a wider audience, particularly those who may not have access to traditional consulting services. This expansion will enable us to serve a more diverse clientele and make a broader impact.
Amar, thank you for sharing your insights and Mindcarter’s inspiring story. We wish you continued success in your mission to provide exceptional brand strategy solutions.
Amar Rajan: Thank you for having me. It has been a pleasure sharing Mindcarter’s journey with you. We are excited about the future and the positive impact we can make through our evolving services.
