Q: Welcome, Bina! Your background is incredibly diverse – from advertising and PR to corporate communication and even teaching. Now, you are a Master Executive Coach, helping leaders reach their full potential. Can you tell us a bit about this fascinating journey?

Bina: Absolutely! Throughout my career, I have explored every avenue of communication imaginable. I have worked in international agencies, led communication teams for top corporations, and even advised C-Suite executives. These experiences instilled in me a passion for communication and its power to drive success. But after a while, I felt a deeper calling to help people not just communicate effectively, but to truly thrive in their leadership roles. That is what led me to found Bina Mathews Consulting FZE and embark on this rewarding path of coaching.

Q: That is a remarkable transition. So, what are some of the biggest hurdles you see executives facing today?

Bina: Many executives are promoted based on technical skills but lack the leadership capabilities needed for their new roles. Suddenly, they are managing people, navigating conflicts, and handling complex communication challenges. Another common obstacle is imposter syndrome – that nagging feeling of not being good enough, despite their qualifications. And over time, limiting beliefs can form, holding them back from achieving their full potential.

Q: Imposter syndrome sounds like a real confidence stealer. How do you address these challenges in your coaching practice?

Bina: My coaching approach is future focused. We explore past experiences to understand the root of limiting beliefs, then replace them with empowering ones. As a Master Executive Coach and Certified Hypnotherapist, I use Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) to accelerate this process. We then work on setting clear goals, identifying resources, and creating an action plan with built-in accountability.

Q: Building trust is crucial in any coaching relationship. How do you establish rapport with your executive clients?

Bina: Trust is absolutely the foundation! Many of my clients come through referrals, which is a great start. But we always have a discovery call to ensure we are a good fit. My extensive experience across various sectors – from agencies to corporations – allows me to connect with clients on a deeper level, understanding their unique challenges and goals.

Q: Staying on top of trends in such a dynamic field is vital. How do you keep your coaching approach fresh and relevant?

Bina: I am a lifelong learner, always seeking opportunities to expand my knowledge and skills. I am a credentialed member of several coaching and professional associations, which provide access to training and industry updates. As a training assistant, I regularly review course content, and I actively participate in executive coaching groups to share best practices with colleagues around the world.

Q: And finally, Bina, how do you tailor your coaching to each individual client?

Bina: There is no one-size-fits-all approach! Before we begin, clients complete pre-boarding forms that give me a clear picture of their needs and goals. Some clients want a more hands-on, accountability-driven approach, while others prefer a more independent style. My experience as a coach and my background in communication allow me to adapt my approach to best serve everyone.

Q: And how do you measure success in your coaching programs?

Bina: Coaching is a client-led process. We establish clear goals upfront, and track progress throughout the program. For corporate clients, HR might have specific objectives, while the individual focuses on personal development areas. The more specific the goals, the more achievable they become. And celebrating milestones along the way keeps motivation high!

Q: This has been incredibly insightful, Bina. Thank you for sharing your expertise and passion for empowering leaders! You are not only a Master Coach, but also an award-winning mentor, speaker, trainer, and communications consultant. On top of that, you serve on the Advisory Council of Evolvin’ Women, a social enterprise dedicated to Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, and you are a Global Ambassador for the Global Impact Initiative. Your dedication to empowering others is truly inspiring.

Bina: Thank you! It has been a pleasure sharing my journey and my passion for helping leaders excel. There is nothing more rewarding than witnessing the positive transformation my clients experience.
